Integrated Power Services Announces Definitive Agreement to Acquire Tampa Armature Works, Inc.

IPS expands service capabilities, coverage, and distribution with acquisition of leading independent power services company.

(Greenville, SC — April 12, 2022)   Integrated Power Services, the North American leader in service, repair and engineering for power management, electro-mechanical and rotating assets, continues to grow with a definitive agreement to acquire Tampa Armature Works, Inc. (TAW). The definitive agreement is expected to close in early June, pending regulatory approval.

Headquartered in Riverview, FL, TAW is a fourth-generation, family-owned company and one of the industry’s largest independent operations. The company has eleven locations servicing customers in the southeastern U.S., Caribbean, South America and Internationally. It provides sales, service, custom manufacturing, maintenance, and repair for electric motors, generators, transformers, switchgear, drives, pumps, and rotating apparatus.  James Arthur Turner, Sr., founded the business in 1921. Today, his grandson, James “Bubba” Turner, III, leads the company and his great-granddaughter, Caroline E. Turner, serves as Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer. TAW employs over 500 people and works in a wide range of markets. These markets include, but are not limited, to utilities, industrial plants and mills, agriculture, metals, mining, and pulp and paper. Its broad capabilities also support commercial markets such as entertainment theme parks, hospitals, universities, government, and real estate.

TAW has four divisions — Service Centers, Power Systems, Custom Equipment, and Technical Field Services. These divisions offer TAW customers integrated single-source solutions and will operate within the IPS as a new region in its North American network.

The acquisition expands the IPS service footprint and adds to its rotating equipment and electrical component service capabilities. TAW also brings a new service category to IPS with Power Systems which operates as the exclusive distributor of Kohler standby generators for industrial, commercial, and marine markets. Power systems also services Kohler and other generator brands assuring operational readiness.

“TAW has a long and storied history over the course of 101 years in business. I believe strongly that the combination of TAW and IPS will be an unstoppable force in the industry. I am convinced this strategic acquisition will enhance our growth opportunities and enable us to achieve some of our longer-term goals and objectives at a much faster speed.  I am also delighted to say I will continue to assist in the growth objectives of these combined businesses,” said J.A. Turner, III.

“The strategic acquisition of TAW represents a significant opportunity to join with a well-known, industry leading power services company.  In addition to motor and generator repair, TAW brings IPS into new service segments such as Power Management and Custom Power Equipment. IPS looks forward to continuing to grow TAW’s service offerings, industry-leading customer experience and 101-year service history,” said John Zuleger, IPS President & CEO.
